What to send for the fastest, most accurate quote

A quote is only as good as the information behind it, so the more of the following you can send up front, the fewer rounds of back-and-forth it takes to get a number you can act on:

• Drawings or a takeoff, if you have them, including any engineering or architectural detail for the opening or structure.
• Photos of the opening, the damaged or failed part, and the surrounding area, so we can see the real condition, not just the dimensions.
• Measurements, even rough ones. Length, width, depth, and the shape of the opening get you a working estimate; we confirm exact figures before fabrication.
• Load class, if you know it: pedestrian foot traffic, a residential driveway, or commercial and industrial vehicle loading. If you are not sure, tell us what the part sees day to day and we will help you land on the right rating.
• Material and finish, if you have a preference or a spec to match: mild steel, galvanized, stainless, or aluminum, and whether it needs to match an existing finish nearby.
• Site conditions that affect fit or install: existing frames or embeds, drainage direction, surrounding concrete or asphalt condition, and access for our install crew if the job needs one.

You do not need all of this to get started. A photo and a rough size are enough for a first estimate; drawings, exact measurements, and a load class sharpen it into a firm number.

From inquiry to finished install

The process is the same whether it is a single residential grate or a multi-unit commercial package, because a defensible quote depends on it being repeatable:

1. Inquiry. Send your drawings, photos, measurements, or just a description of the problem through our contact form or by phone.
2. Measure or site visit. For GTA jobs, we can measure the opening in person, at no cost, so the quote is built around what is actually there. Jobs outside our install radius are quoted from your drawings, photos, and measurements.
3. Quote. You get an itemized quote covering material, load rating, finish, lead time, and installation (if applicable), so there are no surprises once the order is placed.
4. Fabrication. Once you approve the quote, parts are cut, welded, and banded at every edge in our Toronto shop, with shop drawings available for your review before finishing.
5. Install. Our crew installs on site across the GTA on a schedule that fits your project, or we ship the finished part ready to install when site work is not part of the scope.

What you get back with your quote

A Grate Guys quote is not a one-line price. You get an itemized breakdown of material, gauge or thickness, load rating, and finish, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and compare it against any other quote you are considering. For larger or structural orders, we also provide shop drawings you can mark up before anything goes to fabrication, and documentation of the load rating and finish for your own records, inspector, or insurer.

If a site visit was part of the process, the quote reflects what we actually measured, not a stock size, so the part you approve is the part that fits when it arrives.

Typical timelines

Quotes typically go out within one to two business days of receiving drawings, photos, or measurements; jobs that need a site visit to confirm an unusual opening or a load rating add a few days for scheduling. Once you approve a quote, fabrication generally runs two to four weeks depending on material availability, finish, and order size, with galvanizing adding time on top of a mild-steel or stainless build. Installation is scheduled around your site access and timeline once the parts are ready, whether that is a single afternoon for a residential grate or a phased rollout for a larger commercial or municipal order.
